Golden Fur - New Music Project

Young classical/experimental adventurers Golden Fur continue to forge an exciting and intrepid musical path with their new music project.

The next Golden Fur concert at the Clifton Creative Arts Centre (304 Church St, Richmond) on Saturday August 8th will be a vivid evening of music, visuals and movement, featuring rarely performed works by cult Greek avant garde composer, Jani Christou and acclaimed Australian modernist composer, Liza Lim. Golden Fur will also perform the world premiere of a new work by Australian composer Alexander Garsden with video by Alifeleti Brown and Australian premieres of works by Alvin Lucier (USA), Thomas Meadowcroft (GERMANY) and Sam Hayden (UK).

Sound Summit 2009

Held annually as an integral part of This Is Not Art (TINA), Sound Summit will celebrate it’s 10th birthday in 2009 over the October longer weekend – October 1 – 5, in Newcastle, NSW. Traditionally an electronic and hip hop conference and festival, in 2009 Sound Summit will drop it’s genres and broaden it’s scope, inviting independent artists from around Australia and internationally to idea-share, skill-up and brain dump.

MusicNSW is thrilled to announce the first batch of artists performing at Sound Summit 2009. At this year’s festival see the raw pop collages of Ducktails (US), the loveable scuzzy surf punk of the Vivian Girls (US), beautifully rambunctuous lo-fi rock of Pumice (NZ), the haunting melodies of Tiny Vipers (US) and Ripley – a Cali based dj/ academic who’s just come back from Jamaica. Think smart reggaeton party.

Locally they’ll be showcasing the finest independent and innovative artists throughout the festival, including a free showcase event where Sound Summit teams up with New Weird Australia, exploring the spaces of Renew Newcastle and the sounds of a new breed of Australian musicians. Over the weekend hear Qua, Moonmilk, Free Choice Duo, Aoi, The Abyss, Holy Balm, Crab Smasher, Toecutter, kyü and many many many more.

And that’s just in the evening. Prepare for your mind to be blown as they explore every crevice of independent and innovative music in Australia and internationally with a series of panels designed to interrogate ideas, techniques and trends, facilitating the exchange of these over the ultimate arts weekender.

Sound Summit, along with Electrofringe, National Young Writers Festival, Critical Animals and the Crack Theatre Festival, are This Is Not Art. It’s a bit like the Power Rangers.

Handmade Music Night

Part party, part mixer, part Science Fair, and part performance, this is an informal chance for geeksters and the geek-curious to come together, relax, and discover new sounds. The evening is a gathering of inventors of new instruments & music technology. Featuring circuit-bent toys, custom software and patches, interactive digital & visual instruments, custom electronics, electricity-powered noisemakers, DIY robots and new acoustic instruments. And it’s open to everyone from hard-core hackers & newcomers to music lovers who want to learn about the DIY music scene.

Our workshop is now your workshop. In addition to our regular Handmade Music science fair - sonic party series, we’re now offering open lab events during which people can bring hardware and software projects to work on. Whether you’re an absolute beginner trying out a new kit for the first time or an advanced programmer or hardware maker, it’s an open space in which you can spend several hours getting something accomplished. Get that fuzzy synth / strange noisemaker ready to make a racket at a Handmade Music event!

Bring your work and any tools or cables you may need. We’ll provide space, power, and inspiration and ideas from other like-minded DIYers, experienced and newbie alike.
